Wildflowers & Trails

The vibrant wildflowers and butterflies in the mural celebrate the natural beauty and outdoor adventures that surround Elkhorn.

White River State Trail

The White River State Trail begins on County Highway H just south of Elkhorn, stretching about 12 miles east toward Burlington through scenic farmland, wetlands, woodlands, and small towns like Lyons and Springfield. The crushed-limestone path is flat and family-friendly — perfect for walkers, runners, cyclists, and horseback riders (a trail pass is required for biking).

Alpine Valley Resort Trails

At nearby Alpine Valley Resort, a network of singletrack trails — including the Skills Mark and Alp Elkhorn loops — offer moderate to advanced mountain biking, trail running, and hiking opportunities through wooded hills and rolling terrain.

Kettle Moraine & Ice Age Trail

The Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest features more than 22,000 acres of hiking trails, prairies, glacial lakes, and wildlife. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail passes through the area, following the path of ancient glaciers through some of Wisconsin's most beautiful landscapes.

Together, these trails provide Elkhorn visitors and residents with varied options — from tranquil flat rail trails to challenging wooded singletrack — all framed by lush southern Wisconsin landscapes.
