The Elk & Our Schools
The elk in the mural represents our history and our school district — a symbol of heritage and community that has endured for nearly 200 years.
Elkhorn Area School District
At the heart of this spirit is the Elkhorn Area School District (EASD), which serves 3,600 students K–12 and continues to shape future generations. EASD not only provides rigorous academics but also emphasizes leadership, service, and community involvement. Students participate in programs supporting local businesses, charitable organizations, and cultural events, ensuring that the legacy of connection and growth remains strong.
Much like the discovery that inspired its name, Elkhorn's schools remind the community of its roots while helping it flourish for the future.
Elkhorn, Wisconsin earned its name in the early 1800s when Colonel Samuel Phoenix discovered a large set of elk antlers in the area's branches while exploring what was then wilderness. This discovery became a lasting symbol of the community, inspiring its name and its emblem of natural heritage.
Over the years, Elkhorn grew from a small agricultural settlement into the thriving county seat of Walworth County, known for its strong sense of tradition and community.
